Our favorite adventure is to run down the sand dunes and leap into the Au Sable River at Lumberman's monument. A more leisurely trip can be had on the River Queen, an old fashioned paddle wheel boat that cruises down the Au Sable River. Rent canoes, kayaks or tubes at Rollaways north of Hale, or Alcona Canoe Rental in Glennie, or outfitters in Oscoda for a great day on the river. Hale hosts the Michigan Mud Jam which can be a fun Family event. We enjoy visiting the Ogemaw Fair in nearby West Branch or the county fair at the Hale Fairgrounds. Upcoming events are listed one this Hale website:

Our kids love to body surf the waves and play on the sugar sand beach or Tawas. Grab coffee, a sandwich or ice cream at the Victorian Café in Hale which has free wifi. Once a week, we venture out for tasty ribs and a beer or pizza at Main Street Grill in Hale or have a burger and brew at Kenyons restaurant overlooking nearby Sage Lake. Catch a carnival ride at the county fair or a weekend race at Whittemore Speedway. Hike or cross country ski the famous Corsairs trails through the forest. There are lots of fun things to do nearby!
